Conoció a Joan Watson durante la enfermedad de su padre. Ella le tomó mucho aprecio, y él lo agradeció. Cuando su padre murió, pareció no guardarla rencor, al contrario que su madre, no obstante, apareció en algunas ocasiones para pedirle dinero.
Segunda temporada[]
Joey va a la tumba de su padre el día siguiente al aniversario de su muerte. Como se imaginaba, allí se topa con Watson y se van a tomar un café. Allí la informa de que ha dejado los estudios, y que tiene un proyecto con un amigo para abrir una cafetería. Pide a Joan que invierta en ese negocio.
Finalmente, Joan sólamente accede a dejarle dinero si lo utiliza para seguir estudiando. Aunque inicialmente se enoja con ella, decide sopesar su oferta.
